Diálogos sobre Diaghilev

Created in 2017, this interdisciplinary dance work emerged from a vibrant international collaboration between artists from Brazil, Austria, Spain, Germany, Russia, and Argentina. Conceived by Aleksander Kaplun and choreographed by Andressa Miyazato, the piece was developed in partnership with the Virtual Dance Project, under the direction of Marcelo Zamora, and featured the compelling performance of dancer Rafael Abreu.

Bringing together dance, video art, and scenographic experimentation, the work is an imaginative dialogue with the life and myth of Sergei Diaghilev, the legendary impresario and founder of the Ballets Russes. Rather than a biographical narrative, the piece explores the emotional and symbolic resonances of Diaghilev’s legacy—his bold vision, his complex relationship with Vaslav Nijinsky, and the tensions between desire, power, and artistic creation.

The visual language of the piece was deeply enriched by the contributions of Jonatan Salgado Romero (audiovisual design), Julio Escudero (costume design), and Aleksander Kaplun (set and scenic objects), whose works layered historical reference with contemporary aesthetics. The result is a haunting and poetic evocation of a time when dance was radically reinventing itself—seen through the lens of today’s questions about identity, memory, and the construction of artistic myth.

This work stands as a tribute to the ephemeral and visionary nature of dance, offering not a reconstruction of the past, but a reimagining—where bodies become living archives and myth becomes movement.
